Seattle Public Utilities is looking for a Utility System Maintenance Technician to work in the Utility Operations and Maintenance Division. This position assists in the repair, maintenance and installation of utility mechanical equipment systems including pumping, controlling, regulating in pump station/distribution infrastructures. This position will report to the Utility Systems Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities
- Installs, maintains, and repairs pressure, solenoid-controlled diaphragm and ball valves, motor driven pumps and pump motors to ensure customer service levels are maintained and zone pressures and critical system infrastructure are protected from over pressurization.
- Responds to system emergencies and troubleshoots valve and pump pressure and flow irregularities.
- Conducts periodic inspection of valve outlet set points, actuators, and solenoid-control systems to verify specified ratepayer pressure and fire protection flow requirements; maintains and adjusts settings to meet flexible system requirements.
- Diagnoses, overhauls, or replaces necessary consumable or damaged valve, pump motor and meter components utilizing the department's system for work orders.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs motor driven pumps.
- Monitors rotating machinery vibration parameters using ultrasonic measuring devices.
- Installs, maintains, or repairs various facility equipment and systems associated with drainage, ventilation, confined space fan systems, fixed ladders, handrails, decking and water supply.
- Using fixed and mobile computer systems, performs daily updates; accesses utility-based web sites; monitors and changes work order status on the Maintenance Management System; enters and tracks data on the Labor and Equipment reports; and records and documents maintenance repairs.

Qualifications
Experience:
- One year experience working on utility mechanical systems such as pump stations OR
- One year college/trade school training with a concentration in a mechanical discipline and one year experience in water and wastewater or other utility service in the repair of hydraulic and electric pumps, motors, or similar devices.
- Combinations of training or experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.
Licensing and/or Other Requirements:
- Valid Washington State driver's license.
- Confined Space, Fall Protection, Traffic Control and Forklift Certifications are required within one year of employment.
The Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Maintenance experience in pressure reducing valves & pressure relief valves
- Knowledge of rebuilding pumps
- 2 years of experience or Journeyman experience
- Preferred welding experience
Additional Information
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Required to lift heavy objects more than 50 lbs.
- Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather and site conditions including rotating machinery, high voltage, high water pressure, traffic hazards, slippery areas, heavy construction equipment operation, confined spaces, and toxic gases.
- A willingness to work extended shifts, nights, evenings, weekends, holidays and be on-call 24/7 for emergencies.
- A written test will be required for finalists, in addition to an interview.
