Position Description
Tacoma Water is seeking a Senior Budget and Financial Analyst to join their Financial Stewardship team . This position will have a lead role in developing, facilitating, and implementing Tacoma Water's biennial operating and capital budgets, including day-to-day support.
In this role you will perform complex analytical reporting, internal management auditing, and make recommendations to improve performance and increase productivity and efficiency. The Senior Budget and Financial Analyst is also responsible for invoice development and tracking, administration of small and attractive item tracking and auditing, updating periodic statistical and financial reports, administration of forecasting software program, and auditing and responding to general financial inquiries.
Responsibilities Include:
Develop, facilitate, and implement Tacoma Water's biennial operating and capital budgets
- Develop and maintain budget and actual reporting, monitoring, and forecasting
- Present information in various periodic and ad hoc statistical and financial reports and presentations, provide analysis and consult to sections, report quarterly to senior leadership, and work closely to ensure process is understood and being followed
Internal budget and financial consultant for Tacoma Water
- Act as an internal consultant to provide assistance to senior leadership, management-level staff, and others
- Convey and clarify information and assist and train staff on reporting and expense forecasting in forecasting software and various SAP transactions
- Provide interpretations, present research findings, and make recommendations. Serves as a technical advisor for Tacoma Water and Regional Water Supply System budgets, external audits, and other professional level accounting guidance
Internal auditing and reconciliation
- Perform periodic audit and reconciliation of financial transactions to ensure data accuracy and reliability
- Research, analyze and make recommendations to solve problems and suggest alternatives to improve performance and increase productivity and efficiency
Administration of monthly and year-end closing processes
- Assist with the administration and training of monthly and year-end closing processes to support management goals of accurate and timely financial reporting
Create and maintain miscellaneous invoices
- Create and maintain invoicing in the SAP Sales and Distribution module to support efficient revenue collection
- Attend meetings and participate as a member of the Accounts Receivable Review Committee (ARRC)
Qualifications
Minimum Education*
Bachelor's degree public or business administration or directly related field
Minimum Experience*
4 years of progressively responsible analytical and/or program coordination/management work in area related to assignment
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Other Employment Information
Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.
Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
